Routing Profiles

Routing Profiles

In order to send Commio traffic you will need to create at least one routing profile. We offer three different profile types. You will need to choose the profile that best suits your traffic needs.

International versus NANP 1+ Profiles
If you are testing international as well as 1+ there will be three profiles options when you first click the Add New Profile button.

North America: 1+ traffic. This profile includes ALL country 1 destinations in the North American Numbering Plan.
Global: This profile allows for two sides, one for 1+ and the second for international traffic. If you choose the GLOBAL profile type you MUST include the full 11 digits on your 1+ calls. We need to see the country code to know which side of the profile to route the traffic.
*If you cannot send 1+ traffic with the 1 then you will need to create two separate profiles and NOT use the mixed option.
International: This includes everything NOT country code 1. All international destinations.

Profile Types

PRIME RATE: When a call attempt is made via a Prime profile, the Commio platform attempts to connect the call via the lowest rate carrier only. If the destination carrier does not complete the call, the Commio platform will NOT route advance and you will receive a 503. The Prime Rate profile has its own rate deck.

LEAST COST ROUTING: When a call attempt is made via a Least Cost Routing profile without a max rate/max carriers, the Commio platform will query all of the carriers selected within that profile and attempt to connect the call starting with the lowest rate carrier, advancing on errors, non-response, Route Blocks, and Max Carrier PDD, until the call is completed or there are no more carriers to attempt. If there are no more carriers to attempt Commio will return a 503 message.

However, when a call attempt is made via a Least Cost Routing profile with a max rate, the Commio platform attempts to terminate calls via the selected carriers within the profile, and attempts to connect the call starting with the lowest rate carrier advancing on errors, non-response, Route Blocks, and Max Carrier PDD until either the call is completed, there are no more carriers to attempt, or the Max Rate is reached. A typical situation where this profile should be used is when a budget cap needs to be maintained. *Set the Max Rate to the maximum cost per minute allowed to terminate a call, ensuring that no call is completed by the system over the designated Max Rate.

Max Values Explained

Max Carrier PDD: All of the LCR profiles contain this feature. This feature allows the ability to force a route advance if a carrier is delaying connecting a call between the 100 Trying and the 18x message for ringing. Some carriers send the 100 Trying message while searching for a route to complete your call, not responding with a 18x message quickly enough. The Max Carrier PDD is the amount of time in seconds between receiving the 100 Trying message and the 18x message from the carrier. USE WITH CARE! If the max carrier pdd is too high the customer might experience PDD if it is too low the customer might experience call looping.

Max Rate: Maximum per-minute rate allowed. If no routes are found below this rate, Commio will return a 503 for route advancement. Only routes with rates below your max will be attempted. This is based on the pre-taxed rate.

Carrier Options: When creating Profiles, you are able to select the carriers you wish to use. You may choose to select all or pick and choose based on preference and experience.

  6. All long distance carriers will be turned on by default. If you wish to have High Volume carriers enabled, you can check the High Volume Carriers box. The Blue Active tab means the carrier is selected and will be used in routing your calls in this profile. The Grey Disabled tab means the carrier is not selected and will not be used in your routing your calls in this profile (Toll calls only).
  7. Once all values and carriers have been entered and selected properly, click the blue SAVE button to finalize your profile.

By clicking on the Outbound, Profiles tab you will always be able to view all profiles created on your account. To edit a specific profile, select the pencil icon to the right of your profiles name/info. The edit screen will then appear allowing for changes to be made and finalized by again clicking the save button. To delete a profile simply click the red X icon to the right of that profile.

Testing Versus Production, Commio Recommendations

During the testing process we recommend using a LEAST COST ROUTING profile type for 1+ with all carriers selected/active and a max rate of $0.10 (for fraud protection). This will allow for majority, if not all, calls to complete which is beneficial during the testing period.

For international testing, you will automatically be setup with a default max rate of 10 cents on the international profile(s).

Once you move into production, you can certainly pick and choose your carriers, but the testing recommendations are often best in production as well.

**Please note all changes in the portal take a few minutes to propagate on the back end.**
Allow the system a few minutes to save the changes before proceeding with any testing/calls.
