e911 Kari's Law and RAY BAUM's Act

We highly recommend that you work with your local and state authorities and legal advisors to determine how your organization can best comply with the applicable 911 regulations.

The FCC details are HERE, which includes requirements and compliance dates in the FCC’s rules that implemented Kari’s Law and Section 506 of RAY BAUM’S Act. Depending on your state some additional rules may be required.

Kari’s Law

  • No prefix (i.e., 9-911) or any required pre-, post- or trunk access code
  • On-site notifications when a 911 call is placed.

RAY BAUM’S Act (Section 506) – Dispatchable Location

  • A dispatchable location is to be delivered with 911 calls to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).  An Emergency Response Location or ERL consists of a validated street address and includes additional information (e.g. Floor, Suite, and Apt. No) that identifies the caller's location.

We validate the address when a new e911 site is created. If there are any issues, please send us the address, proof of the address(if available) and we can follow up with our provider to ensure a valid address is provisioned

If you provide your employees, guests, or customers a way to get an outside line, you must provide them with direct access to 911, deliver their 911 call with dispatchable location information to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and notify a central location whenever 911 is dialed within your organization.

For any enterprise device that can dial 911, you should assess your location capabilities and determine if you can deliver dispatchable location information for both on-premises and off-premises 911 calls.

Again, we recommend that you work with your local and state authorities and legal advisors to determine how your organization can best comply with the applicable 911 regulations.

FAQs:

Q. What are my requirements if I service a hotel or have many clients in a single building with different suites/rooms?
A. For a Hotel client, each room needs to send out a full 10 digit number along with the location such as RM Number or Suite Number in the Location field (on the configure New Site page).
Therefore it is recommended that you purchase all different ANIs and assign one to each room, set it as residential, and configure an e911 site.  In your PBX, you should be able to configure that ANI to be out pulsed if the extension dials 911.
